I'm really excited to be a part of a concert by the Lambeth Wind Orchestra, conducted by John Holland later this month.
The concert is billed as the "Best of British" and will aptly be staged on 23rd April - St. George's Day. The music featured is drawn from all four corners of the United Kingdom; Wales (Adam Gorb), Stephen McNeff (Northern Ireland), Guy Woolfenden (England) and Buxton Orr (Scotland). Linda Merrick (Principal of the RNCM) will be the guest soloist of the evening, performing the McNeff Clarinet Concerto.
My new work was commissioned by John and the band for the event and pays tribute to the heritage of the sonnet, using the structure, rhythm and reflective nature of the Shakesperian Sonnet as inspiration. 'Four Sonnets' will be given its world premiere as part of the Shakespeare400 celebrations across the country.
Many thansk to John and the Lambeth Wind Orchestra for their support in commissioning and performing this new piece - it's been a pleasure to be involved!
