The 2016 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference takes place between the 30th May and 4th June in Knoxville, Tennessee.
This year, the tuba quartet Tubalaté celebrate their silver anniversary and will be performing at the conference, showcasing some of the many pieces they have commissioned over the past 25 years.
My new work 'The Compass Points....' was commissioned specifically for their performance - it consists of four short, virtuosic solo fragments. Each has its own musical identity to represent the four points of the compass. The piece is intended to illustrate the hectic modern world; constant noise, drama, chaos, clashing opinions and billions of voices fighting to be heard. However, no matter how disparate we may seem, we are all united as a species and are ultimately the caretakers of the earth, which is all too often forgotten, or disregarded.
